Nerd Culture and Anxiety Part 4: Doctor Who Unpopular Opinions

Alright so I have talked about how I got into these fandoms and how they have formed me into the nerd I am today. As mentioned in the previous post, this series of blogs is about fandoms and the anxieties I’ve felt about being a part of them and having different opinions than the masses. So here I am going to talk about some of my opinions that from what I’ve read, the masses both agree with, and I am either alone in thinking or very few people agree with. Since my first post was about Doctor Who, we're gonna start there. So let’s get people mad…or happy…or both, whatever. I will say here that I am going to be talking about modern Doctor Who, so the episodes from 2005 to now. That is what I got into and sorry guys I haven’t seen many episodes of classic Who (The only one’s I’ve seen are Pyramids of Mars and The Caves of Androzani when they were available on Netflix, but if anyone has a recommendation and a link to a classic episode they would like me to watch, please send them my way and I will be happy to watch them). Alright…good, let’s go.

  • Everyone has their Doctor, the one they hold closest to their heart. Mine is 11

  • Series five is my favorite series of the show

  • Series two is my least favorite (to be fair at this time I am a bit behind on the show and am mostly through series nine…which also isn’t very good)

  • My favorite companions are Amy, Rory, and Donna

  • My least favorite is Rose (I don’t dislike her and Billie Piper did a great job, but I just like the other ones better

  • My favorite episode is “A Christmas Carol.”

  • I hate the episode “Love and Monster.”

  • I actually really enjoy the episode “The Unicorn and the Wasp,” (it’s fun)

  • People don’t really like Clara, and I can see why, but I really enjoyed her and 12’s relationship in season 8, her best season

  • If we want to talk Doctor Who spin off’s….I haven’t seen the Sarah Jane Adventures and I could never get into Torchwood despite my love for Captain Jack.

  • The season I rewatch the most is series 7. It’s not one of my favorites, but it’s filled with a bunch of junk food episodes that always give me comfort.

So those are some of my thoughts on Doctor Who that from being on the internet would be considered, “controversial.” If you want to hear my thoughts on Game Of Thrones and The Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the anxiety I have suffered having these thoughts and my experience I nerd culture as a whole, come back over the next few weeks and find out!
